Webinar on Event-based Digital NEC Contract Administration System

18/05/2022 | 15:30 – 17:00

New Engineering Contract (NEC) adopts a fundamentally different philosophy and practice to most other standard form of contracts. NEC is characterised by its period for reply, early warning, integrated pricing options among others. One may say that a contract is well managed if all the parties comply with the period for reply. In line with the flow-charts published by NEC, Ir C K Ng proposes a new approach to handle NEC projects. Emphasis is placed on the response within the stated period for reply to those NEC communications that may lead to compensation events. The speaker designed a system, dRoW (Digital Record of Work), to help the parties comply with the period for reply. This system is provided as a Software as a Service (SaaS), developed using MEAN Stack web application development tools. As a web application, dRoW can provide APIs for interface with other web-based applications e.g. BIM, GIS, RFID, DWSS and EDMS. In this webinar, the speaker will also give his views on the use of NEC for building contracts from his involvement in building projects in recent years. Speaker : Ir C K NG, NEC PM, CCBM, Director of CEO of dRoW Limited Should you have any inquiries, please contact Ms. LI at bim@cic.hk / 3199 7274. Remarks: An electronic copy of CPD attendance certificate will be issued to participants with over 80% attendance within one month after the live webinar. Any attendance on replay sessions after webinar will not be considered for CPD attendance certificate. Replay video is now exclusive for i-Club members, please click here to join i-Club.

CIC Webinar in BIM Show & Tell - Reference Guide to Preparation of Plans for Submission using Building Information Modelling (BIM) Technology

26/05/2021 | 15:00 – 17:00

The Innovation and Technology Bureau (ITB) established the TechConnect (block vote) in mid-2017 to assist various government departments in implementing technology projects, with a view to enhancing operational efficiency and improving public services by use of technology. We are happy to have the project team of Independent Checking Unit (ICU) to have a sharing and demo on their deliverables. Description of the webinar : The Reference Guide to Preparation of Plans for Submission using Building Information Modelling (BIM) Technology included the BIM standards and modelling guidelines, BIM templates, BIM objects and a Plug-in Software for checking the manual editing works. The reference guide was developed by the Independent Checking Unit (ICU) under the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Housing) and it was uploaded to the website of Transport and Housing Bureau for free downloading and public usage on 30 September 2020. The reference guide provided the modelling techniques and BIM templates for building the BIM models such that the 2D General Building Plan, Foundation Plan and Superstructure Plan generated from the BIM models are suitable for statutory submission with minimum manual editing works. Speaker : Mr. Samson WONG, Director of BIT Building Information Technology Limited Should you have any inquiries, please contact Ms. WONG at bim@cic.hk / 2100 9034. Remarks: An electronic copy of CPD attendance certificate will be issued to participants with over 80% attendance within one month after the live webinar. CIC Webinar and soft launch of the Report of CIC Consultancy Study for Digital HK

24/11/2021 | 09:30 – 10:30

In support of Government's initiative of developing a Smart City and Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI), the CIC appointed AECOM as the Consultant to conduct a Study to accelerate the development of Digital Hong Kong last year, by identifying and collecting different 3D spatial and BIM data use case requirements from the local construction industry. Use cases of Building Information Modelling (BIM), Geographic Information System (GIS), 3D spatial data and other kinds of geospatial data are covered. This Study facilitates 3D spatial and BIM data sharing, BIM and GIS integration and the development of 3D Map, which represents the built environment for the Digital Hong Kong. Apart from the top 10 use cases identified and presented last year, one more use case, namely "Preliminary Design for Building (including A&A works) & Civil Engineering Project", is identified, and will be presented in this webinar. The full Report of the Consultancy Study will be available in the CIC BIM Portal: https://www.bim.cic.hk/en/resources/publications, before the webinar. Also, the representative from Geospatial Lab will share an update of Geospatial Lab and CSDI.
